Biomethanization
An eco-responsible solution for managing expired liquid food products
For over five years, 2M Resources has been a leader in the environmentally responsible treatment and recovery of expired liquid food products in Quebec. Committed to a circular economy approach, our company stands out for its innovative, environmentally-friendly approach to organic waste management.
In 2023 alone, more than 8,000 metric tons of liquid were sent for biomethanization - that's more than 3 Olympic-sized swimming pools!

What is biomethanization?
Biomethanization is a biological process that transforms organic matter, such as food scraps, green waste and sewage sludge, into renewable energy.
How does it work?
- Residual organic matter is collected, crushed and mixed to form a homogenous material.
- These organic materials are decomposed by micro-organisms in the absence of oxygen, producing methane-rich biogas and digestate.
- The biogas is then refined to remove carbon dioxide and other impurities, transforming it into biomethane, a virtually identical substitute for natural gas
The biomethane thus produced can be injected into the gas grid or used to generate electricity and heat, or as fuel for vehicles. At the same time, the digestate serves as a nutrient-rich organic fertilizer, promoting sustainable agriculture.
What are the advantages of biomethanization?
- Contributes to the reduction of GHG emissions
- Helps you achieve your ESG objectives
- Valorizes residual organic matter
- Produces both green energy and fertilizer
